Book 1 of The Missing
After successfully completing the Shadow Children series, Margaret Peterson Haddix has begun another that is sure to interest and captivate readers of all ages. The stories of The Missing begins with the book Found. Haddix tells the story of Jonah, an adopted 13 year old who suddenly begins to receive sinister letters telling him that he is one of “the missing” and that someone is coming back to get him. When Jonah’s new friend Chip receives the same letters, they join with Jonah’s sister to try and solve the mystery of who is sending the letters. Only the answers they find may just be more terrifying than not knowing. In all, 36 children in Jonah’s town have received the letters.
Haddix is an accomplished storyteller and this is no exception. Found takes readers on a twisting tale that may be a bit light for adult readers, but will surely fascinate younger readers. Either way, it’s definitely worth the read particularly since the series promises to take readers on adventures that span time itself.
